About me
Megan Patterson is the Founder and Executive Director of Worldmind School, an outdoor, place-based, non-profit independent school in Denver serving students from preschool through 12th grade, and the Founder of Beyond Exceptional, which provides free homeschool enrichment programs for families.Megan specializes in trauma-informed education, neurodiversity, and twice-exceptionality. As a twice-exceptional individual and parent of a twice-exceptional child, she is deeply committed to building learning environments where diverse learners can thrive.While completing her master’s degree in Ecological Teaching and Learning, Megan conducted research on outdoor and place-based education. She has deep knowledge and experience with neurodiversities including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and giftedness. Her work led her to found Worldmind and collaborate with the State of Colorado to help develop the state’s outdoor, nature-based preschool licensing pathway.In 2018, Worldmind became Colorado’s first pilot program for outdoor, nature-based early childhood education, helping launch the state’s outdoor preschool movement. Over the past eight years, Megan has continued working with state agencies to help shape the Outdoor Nature-Based (ONB) Preschool License, which is now available statewide. Worldmind is the first organization in Colorado to officially receive this license.Worldmind began as an outdoor enrichment program in 2015 and has since expanded to include preschool, elementary, middle and high school. The school emphasizes small group learning, social-emotional development, and STEAM education in outdoor environments. Through Worldmind, Megan also provides tutoring, consulting, and professional development for educators.Megan is trained in trauma-informed education through Life Space Crisis Intervention. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, backpacking, and camping with her son and dog.
